The Kevin Bell Arena will be hosting the Squirt D State Championships starting today. Nine teams comprised of 8- to 10-year-olds from around the Kenai Peninsula, Fairbanks, Anchorage and Juneau will compete for the ultimate hockey title.

Event organizers are Domenic Cordle and Dana Fraley who say Homer was selected to host this year's tournament by Alaska State Hockey Association last April.

Homer's Squirt III team goes into the tournament undefeated, beating Kenai twice 11-1 and 3-1 last Saturday in Homer to end the regular season.

"We are confident and working hard together. The kids are happy about being undefeated, but of course they want to win the championship," said Head Coach Steve Nevak.
