The Irish took the brunt of the English empire's first genocidal experiment in the 1500s. The Irish endured centuries of oppression. The Irish won their freedom. Then the Irish made peace.

I would be a sorry crittur without my Irish friends, upon whom I rely for blunt criticism, humor in adversity, music seisuns that start at 10 p.m., and encouragement for grand projects. That is why I say, "One day a year is not nearly enough to celebrate the Irish!"
