Jim's Picks, short films by Jim Woodring 7 p.m.
Bunnell artist-in-residence Jim Woodring transforms Bunnell Street Arts Center into an exhibition and working studio of his cartoons during March. A cartoonist, artist and filmmaker, Woodring is the author of "Jim," an autojournal based on his childhood; "Frank," a wordless cartoon series; and his new graphic novel, "Weathercraft." Through a grant from the Rasmuson Foundation and United States Artists, Woodring visits Homer for a series of workshops and presentations. At 5 p.m. March 17 he talks about "Weathercraft" and from 1-5 p.m. March 20 he does a cartooning workshop. He also visits with school groups.

A collaborative project between photographer Christina Whiting and writer and text artist Jenny Martin, "Circle of Women" explores women's experiences in the stages of their life (see story, page 8).

Silk Extravaganza, by Sara and Katie Cronk 5-7 p.m., First Friday Reception
Girdwood artists Sara and Katie Cronk present silk paintings. "Our painting combines the rich luster of shimmering silk with brilliant, vibrant colors," the mother and daughter team writes. "This explosion of color shakes the winter blues and turns our hopes to the promise of spring." The Cronks also present a young artists workshop 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, with a cost of $35 for members and $40 for nonmembers and a materials fee of $10. An adult workshop is 2-6 p.m. Saturday, with a cost of $55 for members and $65 for nonmembers and a materials fee of $30.

Two Rivers artists Mariska Wright won't be attending, but the gallery shows four of her new handmade dolls. Wright's dolls feature sculpted faces and are made from recycled or reused materials.
