Ninilchik garage sale benefits local family

A garage sale of community-sized proportions will be held at the Ninilchik Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. March 10-11. Proceeds benefit Ninilchik family Jess and Samantha Clucas and their four children who lost their home and all their belongings in a house fire on Jan. 9.

"With everything gone within minutes and their eldest son being treated for smoke inhalation, close family arrived with water, shoes, coats and blankets as they had no time to grab anything with the fire claiming it all," reads a description of the fire posted on Facebook.

A spaghetti dinner was held in the Soldotna area, with a second one held recently in Ninilchik that raised $2,200. The family is currently living at a vacant cabin at Ninilchik Point Overnighter.

The garage sale is a way of recycling items given to the family that are the wrong size or were duplicates.

Donated items for the garage sale can be left at the fairgrounds office between 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Friday, said Laura McGinnis, fair manager. Donations for the family can be sent to 53035 Foley Drive, Kenai, AK 99611.
