Thomas J. Barkman, 75, of Homer, died Feb. 15, 2011, at Southshore Medical Center in Trenton, Mich. Cremation has taken place. Thomas was born on Oct. 12, 1935, in Detroit, Mich., to Wallace and Verna Barkman. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956 during the Korean War. Tom was the owner of Anchor Printing in Alaska until retiring in 2000. He lived in Alaska for the past 30 years, but returned to Michigan every year for the winter months. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was the winner of the Homer Jackpot Halibut Derby in 2001 with a 322-pound catch.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by his son, Thomas Barkman Jr. of Gibraltar; five daughters and their husbands, Tina and Daniel Toon of Brownstown, Mich.; Kim and Daniel Tilley of South Rockwood, Mich.; Karen and Al Gudith of New Boston, Mich.; Kellie and Gilbert Medina of Southgate, Mich.; and Patricia Barkman of Brownstown, Mich.; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
