Hospice of Homer will hold volunteer and phone friend training at the Homer Senior Center March 4, 5, 6, 8, 15 and 22. For more information, call 235-6899.

Homer High School athletics announces the Region III, 4A Basketball tournament will be held at Homer High School in the Alice Witte Gymnasium March 3-5. This will involve 16 boys and girls teams from across the state, bringing hundreds of people to town. HHS appreciates all the Homer community does for local sports programs, and wants to make sure that everyone is aware of the influx of visitors to our community that weekend.

NOMAR announces the 15th annual Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival Amateur Photo Contest. The best of show winner as well as those in the wildlife, scenic and Alaskan (human interest) categories will receive cash prizes. Ribbons will be given for people's choice awards. There is a $5 entry fee per photo. Complete rules and entry forms are available at NOMAR, at the Homer Chamber of Commerce visitor center and at www.nomaralaska.com. Big Brothers Big Sisters needs bowlers for its annual fundraising event on March 19. Start or join a team by March 4 to be in the running for the top local individual, top local team and top statewide fundraiser prizes. There will be more prizes, food and fun on the day of the event.
