A slowly melting Beluga Lake forced the Homer Hockey Association's Pond Hockey Tournament indoors to the Kevin Bell Arena last weekend.

All games were played in the traditional pond hockey style — three on three with box goals and no stop of play.

Eight teams hailing from as far as Juneau and Anchorage competed for the chance to win the Golden Shovel.

In the men's division for the championship game, "The Original 6" battled the Kenai "Moose Knuckles" in a high scoring game. "The Original 6" took the lead early on and held to it to win the Golden Shovel 25-12. Top scorers were Beau Greenwald and Chris Cushman, both of Homer.

In the women's division, undefeated "Beluga Lake Blue Puckies" faced off against the "Beluga Lake Methane Flamers" in a hotly contested game. The "Blue Puckies" would not give up their undefeated record and beat the "Methane Flamers" 12-3. Top scorers in the game were Anna Dickerson and Ori Badajos, both of Homer.
