Appointments being taken for new Pulmonary Clinic

Dr. John Clark, a visiting pulmonologist from Anchorage, is now offering monthly clinics at the South Peninsula Hospital Specialty Clinic. His next clinic is Feb. 27.

Dr. Clark is board certified in both internal medicine and pulmonary diseases. His clinic offers care for asthma, tobacco-related lung disease (COPD — emphysema, chronic bronchitis), environmental and inhalational ailments, shortness of breath, blood clots to the lung, lung cancer, pulmonary hypertension, sarcoidosis and other lung ailments.

Dr. Clark attended medical school at the University of Washington, completed his residency at the University of Washington, and completed his fellowship at the Fletcher Allen Health Center in Vermont.

Clinic appointments will take place at the Specialty Clinic Annex in the Kachemak Professional Building on Bartlett Street. Appointments can be scheduled by calling 235-0310. No physician referral is necessary, but all patients are required to have a local primary care physician.

This clinic may be held more often depending on local need. Dr. Clark is just one of numerous visiting specialists now offering care at South Peninsula Hospital.

Employers sought for Homer job fair

Planning is now under way for the Homer College, Career and Job Fair, which will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 6 at the Kachemak Bay Campus. Organizers currently are seeking employers interested in setting up booths to meet potential job applicants for the upcoming season. If you are an employer and want more information about this event, please contact Lisa Croft at 226-3041 no later than March 9.

Business center offers 2 workshops in March

The Alaska Small Business Development Center will offer two different seminars in Homer in March:

• A free "Starting A Business" seminar will be from 1-3 p.m. March 26 at the Homer Chamber of Commerce.

Bryan Zak, southwest regional director of the center, will answer basic questions on starting a business on the Kenai Peninsula while preparing participants for a productive relationship with the center. The seminar is a chance to learn more about the small business development center, its partner programs and reasons to register for the center's free counseling services.

The deadline to register is March 20.

• A "Building a Business Plan" Workshop will be offered from 1-4:30 p.m. March 30, also at the Homer Chamber of Commerce. Zak will show participants the benefits of building an effective business plan by providing methods to establish budgets and ways to evaluate successes and failures. The fee is $60.

The deadline to register is March 23.
