Husky ski team to host ski-a-thon; lessons to be offered by coaches for $25




What's a ski-a-thon? A fun-filled event used to promote skiing among youth by supporting the funding of getting to the trails, wax and assorted other costs.

The Homer Middle School Husky ski team is having a "ski-a-thon" fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Sunset Loop.

The team goal is to collectively ski 300 kilometers, or 186 miles. Husky skiers will be skiing Sunset Loop during that time period. The suggested flat pledge is $7 to $15.

Those wanting to participate can pledge with a HMS skier or simply call 399-3096.

In conjunction with the ski-a-thon, the Husky coaches will offer skate ski lessons to the parents and the public.

Beginner lessons will be from 11a.m. to noon. Intermediate lessons will be from 12:30-1:30 p.m. The fee is $25 per person with all fees going to the HMS ski team.

Registration is required and can be made by calling Alan Parks at 399-3096.
