Kenai Peninsula Borough SChool District

Feb. 21: Informational meeting to discuss transportation on the southern peninsula; Homer High School Auditorium, 7 p.m.

Chapman School

Wrestling: Practice schedule is Monday and Tuesday, 3:10-5 p.m.; Thursday and Friday, 5-6:30 p.m.

Volleyball: Practices are Tuesday-Friday, 3:10-5 p.m.

Feb. 16: Battle of the Books, grades five and six.

Feb. 16: Volleyball at Cook Inlet Academy, 4 p.m.

Feb. 17: Battle of the Books, grades three and four.

Feb. 18: Volleyball at Kenai, 10 a.m.

Feb. 21: Volleyball first round at Boroughs, 9:30-10 a.m.

Feb. 22: Volleyball at Nikolaevsk, 4:30 p.m.

Feb. 25: Ski Boroughs at Seward.

Feb. 25: Volleyball Boroughs finals at Nikiski, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Feb. 25: CS Basketball League Tournament, 3-9 p.m.

Wrestling update: The Husky wrestling team traveled to Seward on Saturday to compete in two duals versus Soldotna and Kodiak Middle Schools, said Coach Chris Perk. Homer did well, posting a 13-win, three-loss record. All eight team members won matches. Seth Classen was awarded the Good Sport Award. Corey Bice, Jadzia Martin, Jimmy Krazseski, Jaime Rios and Andrew Doughty won both of their matches. Eli Graham, Seth Classen and Ravi Cavasos each won one match. The team heads to the Borough Championships this weekend in Kenai.

McNeil Canyon Elementary School

Feb. 17: Skate night, 6:30 p.m.

Feb. 18: After-school skiing.

Feb. 22: After-school skiing.

Feb. 23: Talent show, 6:30 p.m.

Feb. 27: After-school skiing.

Feb. 28: Spotlight lunch honoring Bryce Glidden, Molly Kesey, Rainbow OPhelan, Jenna Lapp, Anthony Basargin, Sam Banks, Liam James, Zoe Stonorov, Marina Greear, Irina Ivanov, Daniel Reutov, Hailey Wilkins, Hunter Patton and Thomas Bridgeman.

Paul Banks Elementary School

American Legion Auxiliary Girls State, American Legion Boys State

Applications for Girls State and Boys State (one-week, hands-on government leadership camp for high school juniors) should be turned into school counselors by April 4. Contact Darlene, 235-6789, or the post at 235-8864 for information and/or applications.

Youth Rally

Homer Electric Association is offering scholarships to the annual Youth Ralley in Caldwell, Idaho; applications are available at www.homerelectric.com; deadline for entries is April 2.

n The American Cancer Societys Cancer Survivor College Scholarship Program; applications will be accepted through Feb. 24; for application packets, call (866) 500-3272.

n American Legion scholarships: The Homer American Legion Auxiliary Scholarships, deadline April 12; the National Presidents Scholarship, deadline March 1; the Western District Auxiliary Scholarship, deadline March 1; the Auxiliary Spirit of Youth Scholarship, deadline March 1.

n Friends of Alaska National Wildlife Refuges; applications must be submitted by March 1; application and instructions at www.alaskarefugefriends.org.

n Homer Electric Association; applications available online at www.homerelectric.com; at HEA offices in Homer and Kenai, and at Kenai Peninsula Borough schools; deadline is 5 p.m. March 1.
