Homer resident, Mr. Dean Schneck, 71, died Friday, Feb. 3, 2012 at home from natural causes.

Mr. Schneck was born Dec. 17, 1940, in Chicago. He was a clinical professor in the School of Social Work at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, from 1973 until he retired in 2000. After a distinguished career, he and his wife moved to Oregon for a while before making Homer their final residence. Dean loved sailing, nature photography and fishing.

His friends, students and colleagues wrote, Dear Friend, you set us on the trail, tirelessly led us over many an obstacle and showed us how to fly.

Dean is survived by his wife, Geraldine of Homer; daughter, Veronica Braum of Loomis, Calif.; son, Chris Schneck and his wife Kristin of Truckee, Calif.; father, Walter of Mountain Home, Ark.; grandson, Tristan Braum of Loomis, Calif.; granddaughters, Vanessa Braum and Annika Braum both of Loomis; his three brothers, Dennis, Don, Duane, and two sisters, Donna and Denise, and many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were by the Homer Funeral Home.
