Saturday outage affects 14,000 HEA customers
A power outage caused by a voltage problem at a Nikiski substation shut down power for 14,000 Homer Electric Association members on Saturday. The outage began at 1:48 p.m. and was fixed by 3:11 p.m. Feb. 9. It affected parts of Nikiski, Kenai, Sterling, Kasilof and south to Homer. A voltage problem at the Bernice Lake substation in Nikiski caused the outage when circuits automatically shut down. HEA crews were able to address the problem quickly, said HEA spokesperson Joe Gallagher.
