Jan. 30-Feb. 6
Firefighters and emergency medical technicians went to four medical calls and two fire calls. Firefighters at 6:49 p.m. went to a mutual aid request by the Homer Volunteer Fire Department for a structure fire on Quinalt Avenue off Clearwater Drive near Skyline Drive. The fire turned out to be just outside city limits in the Kachemak Emergency Services area. KESA responded with a total of five apparatus and 14 firefighters and EMTs. HVFD responded with five apparatus as well. Heavy snowfall, narrow roads, and steep and slippery roads hampered access to the building. A Compressed Air Foam Unit (CAFS) was used on scene in order to extend water supply. Firefighters left the scene at 9:37 p.m. There was no one home at the time the fire started and no injuries were reported. The building was completely destroyed. The cause remains under investigation.
