Gift of swimming lasts a lifetime

On behalf of children at Homer Head Start, I would like to thank the Homer Foundation for a generous contribution from the Asaiah Bates Fund. This gift, along with funds raised by our parent committee, allowed 20 preschool students to attend seven one-hour swim lessons at Kate Kuhns Aquatic Center.

We are also grateful to Bridget Kuhns and the fabulous swimming instructors for their patient teaching; and grateful to many family and community volunteers who helped in the water and locker rooms.

Swimming was definitely the highlight of our January early learning experiences. It inspired children's artwork, journal entries, and even the theme of our winter reading party. Swimming is an important life skill in Homer where so many activities involve water. We are forever grateful to Brother Asaiah and Homer Foundation for this lasting gift.
