West Hill rezoning unnecessary

I am against the proposed zoning change for the West Hill area. Whoever came up with rezoning this small part of upper West Hill (as stated in the comprehensive plan) must have personal gains in mind because there is no other reason to change the zoning status and it is of no benefit to others in the neighborhood. Most of the area is wetlands designated so it is not conducive to extreme developments.

The entire idea of rezoning the West Hill area should be removed from the comp plan, erased, deleted, whatever needs to be done so we can rest assured that we will not have to worry about it for the next 50 years.

There is no economic need for duplicate small businesses up West Hill as there are in the small town of Homer (i.e. convenience store, coffee shop, etc. as pointed out in the comp plan).

May I remind you that in the past few years, two in-town convenience stores and one video rental shop went out of business. In my short seven-minute drive to town, I check our post office box almost daily, purchase groceries two times a week, gasoline once a month and I plan "convenience shopping" with these necessary trips to town.

I don't see a "reduced need for driving" as a concern as stated in the comp plan. Any such zoning changes in our neighborhood would disrupt the "Alaskan Wilderness" character and generate excess traffic and other undesirable behaviors.

Let me quote other Alaskans when I say, "We did not move here for convenience."
