Sandra Kay Bowen, 68, of Anthem, Ariz., and Homer died quietly at her home in Arizona, Jan. 17, 2012, of cancer.

She was born Feb. 9, 1943, in Oil City, Pa., to Charles William and Ethel (Barron) Schrock of Somerset, and was a descendant of Nicholas Barron, one of the first settlers of Somerset County, circa 1774. She graduated from Somerset Area High School in 1961 and Cumberland Hospital School of Nursing, Maryland, in 1964, where she received her R.N.

After working as a nurse at Somerset Community Hospital, Bowen became a flight attendant for United Air Lines, where she flew for 32 years until her retirement.

She is survived by husband, Gordon Bowen, of Anthem and Homer; stepdaughter, Jessica Bowen, of Alameda, Calif.; son, Leigh Christian, of Los Angeles; sister, Mary Ann, and her husband, Barry Hoffman, of Plymouth, Mich.; nieces, Elizabeth Hoffman and Hayley Hoffman, of Ann Arbor, Mich.; and by her beloved dog, Jerry, all of whom will miss her very much.
