Business center offers two Homer seminars this month

The Alaska Small Business Development Center will offer two different seminars in Homer in February:

• A free "Starting A Business" seminar will be from 10 a.m.-noon Feb. 17 at the Homer Chamber of Commerce.

Bryan Zak, southwest regional director of the center, will answer basic questions on starting a business on the Kenai Peninsula while preparing participants for a productive relationship with the center. The seminar is a chance to learn more about the small business development center, its partner programs and reasons to register for the center's free counseling services.

Deadline to register is Feb. 6.

• A two-day "Profit Mastery" seminar will be offered from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Feb. 20 and Feb. 21 at Land's End Resort.

The seminar, presented by Zak, is described "as your best opportunity for knowledge-driven financial management education."

"This 16-hour hands-on course will help you set goals for the future of your business, control spending and pricing. You will leave with a process to assess the performance of your business and a strategy to implement change. In addition to the program content, you will master the material through quizzes, lively discussion, guided practice and real-life application to your own business. Creating value and building wealth will empower you to make better business decisions and keep more of your hard-earned money," according to a press release.

Normally $395, the federal jobs bill allows the center to offer the seminar at a special rate of $200. To qualify for that rate, participants must register and payment must be received by Feb. 10.

To register for the workshops: Go to http://aksbdc.ecenterdirect.com. Click on training events, select Kenai Peninsula for the center's location, search for the specific seminar, click "Sign Up," then enter your info.

For the profit mastery seminar, participants will be contacted regarding payment options once their registration is received.
