The flu season hit the Mariners' boys basketball team hard last weekend, costing them the game against East High School 64-42. With five players suffering from the bug, the team put in the best they had with what they had.

"The bottom line is that we ran out of gas," said Mariners' Head Coach Mark Casseri. "The kids played well considering their conditions."

The Mariners stayed steady in the game in the first half, with a score at half time of 28 East High, 20 Homer. But their steam blew.

"We were doing well until halfway through the third, until East High made a run for it and we couldn't catch up," said Casseri. "I played the young kids, the freshmen, in the fourth quarter."

Though health conditions brought morale down, advancements were made in the team as a whole.

"The boys shot well on the free throw line, which we have been missing most of the year," said Casseri.

Senior Robin Glosser owned nine of the free throw points, and senior Ryan Cotney had eight. Other scorers were sophomore Quinn Daugharty with nine points, junior Sam Reinart with four points, and seniors Dyllan Day and Drew Brown, and junior Konstantin Reutov, all with two points.

This weekend the boys and girls teams go to Colony and Palmer.

Casseri will be prepping his recovering team, including Devon Kennelty who has been out all season due to a broken leg.
