Alaska's Educational Resource Center's Career Connection

AERC's Career Connection program brings students from around the state to Juneau to job-shadow in various work sites for a one-week period. The opportunity is available to students in grades 11 and 12. They will be placed at sites in a field of their interest and explore related careers and higher education opportunities. During a one-week session, students will stay at the Juneau Youth Hostel. Two sessions will be held: April 9-13 and April 16-21. Tuition for students is $650 plus airfare to Juneau. Students must be accompanied by a teacher and/or a chaperone (five students to one adult per school site). Tuition for accompanying adults is $450 plus airfare. Tuition covers cost of the program, transportation in Juneau, food and accommodations. Deadline to submit letters of intent is Feb. 10. Families First: A Best Beginnings Partnership has awarded three scholarships to Homer-area child care centers:

$130 to Jeanne's Learning Yurt to meet fire marshal structural requirements;

$130 to Kachemak Kids Early LearningCenter to purchase art supplies;

$240 to Smallpond Childcare to purchase music curriculum and instruments.
