Sandy Gillespie of Ester, Bunnell Street Arts Center's January artist in residence, holds a two-day journaling workshop from 6 to 9 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Described as "an individual exploration of mark making and meaning inherent in that act," the workshop is not a writing workshop. Participants will create writings and journals as art objects. "Writing is communication," Gillespie said. "Through marks on paper, we come to know ourselves deeply; through sharing what we have written, we claim our right to be ourselves in this world; through listening to others' writing, we recognize our commonalities, even through our differences. Writing is a means to voice and productive participation in our communities." High school students are welcome to sign up for the workshop. The suggested fee for the workshop is $50 on a "pay as you can" sliding scale of from $25 to $75. To register, contact Bunnell at 235-2662.
