Bunnell holds encaustic workshop Feb. 2

Bunnell Street Arts Center sponsors an encaustic demonstration workshop at noon Feb. 2 with Susan Delgalvis, the artist showing her work in the gallery for February. Encaustic is the medium using pigmented wax, often for two-dimensional paintings and collages. Delgalvis demonstrates how she uses encaustics to make sculptures that rise from wood panels. 'Arctic Son' shows Feb. 7 at Homer Theatre

"Arctic Son: Fulfilling the Dream," the documentary film by Homer filmmakers Jean Aspen, Tom Irons and Brian George Smith, shows in a new version at 7 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Homer Theatre. The story of a winter spent in 1992 in the remote Arctic by Aspen, Irons, their son Luke and their friend Laurie Schacht, the film was first shown in 2010. Aspen, Irons and Smith will attend, with a special appearance by Schacht, and be available after the movie to answer questions. A new feature video will be shown before the movie. Plate Project has started

Painting for Bunnell Street Arts Center's annual Plate Project fundraiser has started at the gallery. Painters are invited to paint on plates, with the plates offered as premiums for the art center's annual membership drive. Bring your own brushes and paints during gallery hours noon to 5 p.m. Monday-Saturday.
