Divas host tournament

The first women's hockey tournament on the Kenai Peninsula in more than two years will be held in Homer this weekend. More than 70 women from around the state will play in the Homer Winter Jamboree women's hockey tournament Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Kevin Bell Arena.

Thirty of the players hail from Homer's own Divas women's team. Other skaters are coming from Soldotna, Anchorage, Wasilla, Palmer and Fairbanks.

The 12 game tournament is focused on fun and fundraising for the rink and the Divas.

A round robin format is designed to mix up players of all abilities. The tournament committee created six teams with the same spread of skill levels, with a focus on keeping people who know each other skating together.

A fundraising party will be held 9 p.m.– midnight on Saturday at Beluga Lake Lodge. The public is invited to party with the ladies and enjoy a silent auction, DJ and games. Proceeds go to the rink.

Game will be held Friday at 8 and 9:30 p.m.; Saturday at 8:30 a.m., 11:15 a.m., 12:45 p.m., 5 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.; and Sunday at 8:30 a.m., 10 a.m., 12:45 p.m. and 2:15 p.m.
