City League back

The Best Western Riptide continued their winning streak in City League basketball action Monday with a 73-48 victory over the Gregoire Construction Smooth Operators. Dean Devaney led all scorers with 23 for the Riptide while Nick Finley added 11. Heath Johnson and Dave Drake combined for 27 for the Smooth Ops. The Bulletproof Nets improved to 8-3 with a 76-67 win over the K-12 Teachers. Five players scored in double figures for the Nets as Corey Sutherland, Norm Anderson, Eden Badajos, Ryan Cotney and Josh Gilbert scored 65 of the points for the Nets. Mark Putney had a game high 25 points followed by 17 each coming from Paul Gutzler and Paul Story for the teachers. The Home Run Oil Titans defeated the Alaska Bible Institute 55-42. Colton and Erick Tutt combined for 37 points for the victors while Erick Rozeboom and Elijah Bentley scored 19 and 9 respecively for ABI. City League basketball has games every Monday beginning at 6 p.m. at the Homer Middle School.

Lighting up the night

Kachemak Nordic Ski Club holds "Friday Night Lights" this Friday and Saturday, with tiki torches lighting Sunset Loop on Diamond Ridge for skiers and snowshoers from 6-8 p.m. The event was originally scheduled for Jan. 4-5; however, snow conditions and weather resulted in a rescheduling. There will be a fire for warming up on the outside and hot chocolate for warming up on the inside. This is a no-dog event. The fee is $10 for ski club members, $20 for nonmembers; children free.
