Support the Lady Mariner basketball team this Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Elks Club for a prime rib and halibut dinner and auction fundraiser. Auction items include a variety of seafood, homemade pies and local businesses donations. Tickets are $20. Call 235-2370.

There will be a square and contra dance at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 10 at McNeil Canyon Elementary School. Laura Patty will call to music by Thistle. Please bring clean, soft-soled shoes to dance in. Beginners are welcome. Admission is $6, kids under 16 get in free.

An Arthaven workshop will be held from noon-4 p.m. Jan. 11 at the Bunnell Street Arts Center. Camille Moritz will present "Eight Rays of Spirit," intuitive healing with color, exploring the emotional and healing properties of color in everyday life. Arthaven staff and clients may attend at no cost. All others, please call 235-4801 to register. Fee is $30.

There will be a Nordic Gala dinner and auction to benefit ski racers of high school age at 7 p.m. Jan. 17, at the Barn. This event is for past, present and future supporters of ski racing in Homer. Tickets are $80 on sale at the Homer Bookstore. Call 235-1091 for information.

Beginning and intermediate cross-country ski lessons for women will be held from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Jan. 11 and 18, at the Lookout Mountain ski trails on Ohlson Mountain Road (please park in parking lot). Get ready for the Kachemak Ski for Women race or just get out for fun and learning. A $20 minimum donation is suggested, and Kachemak Nordic Ski Club membership is appreciated. The Ohlson Mountain rope tow hours of operation are 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Sundays, conditions permitting.

The Unitarian Universalists of Homer will hold a meeting and a Burning Bowl ceremony at 12:30 p.m. Jan. 11. Please call 235-6349 for the meeting location.

A 13-session boating skills and seamanship course will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7-8:30 p.m., Jan. 20 through March 3. The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Homer Flotilla is offering the course through Homer Community Schools at Homer High School. Call 235-6090 to register, or for more information, 235-6398.

The Central Peninsula Fish and Game advisory committee holds elections at 7 p.m. Jan. 12 at the Ninilchik School. Also on the agenda is preparing comments on the Board of Game Southcentral proposals. Call (907) 567-3306.
