Outage shuts power on south side of bay for two days

Editor's note: This story was updated to more clearly specify the outage was for an event on July 1.

About 135 Homer Electric Association customers in Halibut Cove, Peterson Bay and China Poot Bay endured a two-day power outage last week. The outage began about 9:30 a.m. Sunday morning, July 1, and lasted until about 5:15 p.m Monday evening, July 2.

In a July 3 press release, HEA said the outage happened when a pole dislodged due to flooding at Stonehocker Creek in the McKeon Flats. Crews found the broken pole on Sunday, but conditions kept crews from making immediate repiars. After making a safe landing zone on Sunday evening, crews worked to restore power on Monday, with power being restored at about 5:15 p.m.
