Wedding

Andrew Vait and Margit Humphrey tied the knot Aug. 16, 2014, in an outdoor ceremony at Anacortes, Wash., at the home of the bride’s parents. The weather cooperated, and a late afternoon sun shone on family and friends who gathered to celebrate. The groom’s father, Leo Vait, officiated.

Andrew, the son of Leo and Nancy Vait of Homer, graduated from Homer High School in 2003 and the University of Miami, Coral Gables, Fla., in 2007.

Margit, daughter of Betsy and Rich Humphrey of Anacortes, Wash., graduated from Olympus High School in Salt Lake City in 2005 and Western Washington University Bellingham in 2009.

Andrew introduced himself to Margit in Seattle in 2010, following a dare by friend Evan Smith. The couple hasn’t looked back.

Several Alaskans attended the wedding, including all four groomsmen: Jake Bell, Jamie and Evan Smith, all formerly of Homer, plus Ryan Gaule, who grew up in Moose Pass. Brit DelMoral Szymoniak attended with her daughter, the charming flower girl Ruby Grae.

Following a fairy-tale reception where family and friends feasted and danced into the night, Andrew and Margit honeymooned on Vancouver Island. They plan a longer January vacation in Thailand. The couple has settled into married life in Seattle, where Margit works as an account manager for Butter London. Andrew is a singer/songwriter with the band SISTERS, teaches private music lessons, and looks forward to returning to Homer next summer to co-direct his third HCOA Summer Music Camp.
