Mr. Virgil Wayne Englishbee, Sr., 75, of Anchor Point, died from pulmonary fibrosis on Friday, Sept. 16, 2016, at St. Elias Speciality Hospital in Anchorage, after a day surrounded by family and friends. A service is at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016, at Chapman School in Anchor Point.

Former Homer resident Marjorie Gene Stephens, 88, died peacefully on Sept. 1, 2016, in Amarillo, Texas. She was born in Amarillo and spent her childhood and early adult years there. She married her high school sweetheart Del Stephens, attended the University of Texas with him, and accompanied him around the world for the next 50 plus years. He was a pilot in the U.S. Air Force and they enjoyed traveling together. They had a loving marriage.

Terry James Greenwald, aged 63, of Homer died on Thursday, Aug. 25, 2016, at South Peninsula Hospital.

Terry was born Saturday, Jan. 17, 1953, in Fairfield, Calif., to Harold Jacob and Wanda (DuBois) Greenwald.

His family stated, “Terry fell in love with Homer, Alaska, and spent 14 happy years living his dream. He often said that he was lucky to live in the most beautiful place on earth.”

Terry was an avid photographer and chef and spent his free time pursuing his hobbies.

James Ray Bills, 87, died Aug. 23, 2016, in Fritz Creek surrounded by his family.

He was born in Independence, Mo., on Aug. 29, 1928. to Lillie Mae and Ray Bills. When he was 15-years-old he joined the U.S. Navy and saw action throughout the Pacific in World War II. On his 17th birthday, when he was of legal age to join the Navy, the ship he was on sailed into Tokyo Bay for the surrender of Japan. He spent 21 years serving in the Navy.

Beth Ann Mishko, 70, died of ALS at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer in the first hour of Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2016.

Beth was born Beth Ann Gill Oct. 18, 1947, in the elevator in Mercy Hospital in Auburn, N.Y. Her family were in dairy farming as tenant farmers in five central New York counties.

On June 25, 2016, Deborah Rose Nye of Olday Road at McNeil Canyon suddenly died. Deborah was the first baby born in the new year of 1952 at the Canandaigua, N.Y., hospital. She grew up Deborah Schuyler at Naples in the Finger Lakes region of New York. In 1976 she met her future husband, Willy, down on the Seneca Reservation at Salamanca, N.Y.

Dorothy L. Barnes, 91, died peacefully in Homer on Aug. 19, 2016.

She received a Certificate of Practical Nursing in 1966 and then moved to Alaska and began her nursing career. She met and married Bruce Barnes, a crane-operator for the Alaska Railroad. She graduated from the University of Alaska with a degree in social science, and a bachelor of arts in psychology. They retired and moved to Homer together in 1980.

Michael James Berger, 65, a long-time Homer resident, died peacefully on Friday, July 22, 2016, at the Veterans Administration care facility in Martinez, Calif., after a short illness. Michael was born in Minneapolis, Minn., the son of James H. and Vera J. Berger.

The second of five children, Michael was preceded in death by his older sister, Katherine Ann Berger, and his youngest brothers, Gregory John Berger and Joseph Gerard Berger.

He is survived by his younger brother, Paul Robert Berger of Elk Grove, Calif.

Ninilchik resident Mrs. Tracy Anne Lukianov, 40, died at her home Thursday, July 21, 2016, in Ninilchik.

No services will be held at this time.

Tracy was born Nov. 6, 1975 in Olympia, Wash. She went to high school and got her G.E.D. In 2010 she moved to Ninilchik. Prior to moving to Ninilchik she lived in Anchor Point and Nikolaevsk Village. She was a stay at home mother who loved karaoke and weaving.

There will be a gathering to remember and honor Casey Wise from 4-7 p.m. Aug. 18, 2016, at the pavilion at the Slidehole Campground, Anchor Point.

From Homer, turn left at the Anchor River Inn onto the Old Sterling Highway. In one-third mile, take a right at the bridge and continue on Anchor Point Road 0.7 miles to the Slidehole Campground.

His family welcomes friends to come at any time during those hours to share your stories and memories of Casey. Bring a camp chair if you’d like a seat.

Patty Ann (Jones) Williams, 74, born March 11, 1942, died in Sweet Home, Ore., on July 17, 2016 from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and congestive heart failure.

In 1944, Patty arrived in Homer at the age of 2 with her parents on a steam ship at the end of the Homer Spit. Patty attended grade school and high school in Homer, until her junior year. In 1959 Patty and her family moved to Chehalis, Wash., where she graduated from high school.
