Longtime Alaskan and Anchor Point resident, Sydney Allan Huffnagle, 88, died Tuesday, May 24, 2016, at home

The family will have an informal gathering to share stories of Syd at 3 p.m., Monday, June 13, 2016, at the Elks Lodge in Homer.  His cremated remains will be buried next to his wife in Ridgway, Colo., at a later date.

Homer resident Alberta June “Abby” Warren died at her home Wednesday, May 18, 2016, with family present. She was 87-years-old.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 3, 2016, at South Peninsula Hospital’s Long-Term  Care facility, 4300 Bartlett Street. No flowers, please, due to allergies.

Keith Darrell Kohler died Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at the age of 89 years, 7 months and 27 days.

Keith and twin sister, Kathleen, were born Aug. 23, 1926, to Harry and Arleta (Muck) Kohler. 

Keith joined the Navy on Dec. 11, 1944, at age 18, serving on the USS Stokes, AKA 68, and honorably discharged on July 7, 1946. He received the Victory Medal and Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal.

Longtime Alaskan Marianne R. “Mary” Haeg, 84, died Thursday, April 28, 2016, in her sleep at Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna.

There will be a potluck memorial from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, June 5, 2016, at Beachwood Manor B & B, Mile 12 Kalifornsky Beach Road. Parking will be on the east side of Kalifornsky Beach Road in the field. The memorial will be on the west side overlooking Cook Inlet.

Homer resident Kendall Gordon Branch departed this life for his next big adventure on Dec. 10, 2015. Kendall was born in Cordova in 1932 to Gordon Thomas and Eva Davis Branch of Chitina. Kendall’s grandparents were Harry Kendall (H.K.) and Mamie Davis, also of Alaska.

Jerry Duane Cupp passed away April 30, 2016 at home in Homer after a 13-year battle with multiple sclerosis. He was 68.

Jerry was born to Clayton “Bud” Cupp and Wilma Day Cupp in McCloud, Calif., on Nov. 8, 1947. Jerry was the youngest of three sons.

Former Homer resident Leanne McCartt passed away at home in Texas on May 2, 2016, surrounded by her family. She was the daughter of Walter and Ruthana Moss (deceased). She was preceded in death by her husband Paul, and her brother John. 

She was born in Logansport, Ind.

Homer resident Charles E. “Charlie” Little, III, 57, died Monday, April 18, 2016, at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer.

A private service will be held.

Charlie was born to a military family on May 8, 1958, in Germany to Charles and Betty Little.

Charlie was a resident in Homer at Main Tree Independent Living Facility.

“After a 16-year battle with cancer that amazed his doctors in Washington as well as in Alaska for his robust constitution, he quietly slipped his mooring on the morning,” his family said. “Sometimes somebody comes along who is bigger than life.  In his own words a few weeks before his death he said ‘I’ve had one hell of a run.’ He is survived by his loving wife Trish and numerous siblings and nieces and nephews, as well as abundant friends and acquaintances. His life enriched the lives of all who knew him.”

After 100 well lived years, Wendell Stout died Feb. 15, 2016, at Friendship Terrace Assisted Living in Homer. He died peacefully and remained vibrant and active to the end. 

Wendell was born in Portland, Ore., Sept. 27, 1915, to Ray and Mable Stout. He was raised to respect and embrace the natural world. He lived that life to the fullest, from climbing the high Cascade peaks to scuba diving lakes, rivers and oceans.

Casey D. Wise, 40, of Sycamore, Ill., died Monday, April 18, 2016, at Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb, Ill.

He was born Feb. 29, 1976 in Homer, Alaska, the son of William and Nancy (Williams) Wise. Casey married Erica Nelson on July 12, 2003 in Sycamore.

Mary Laurie Epperson, 93, died April 11, 2016, at South Peninsula Hospital. “Our beloved mother, friend and teacher passed away,” her family said. “She left behind a legacy that will be forever remembered.”

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. June 25, 2016, at the Mariner Theatre and Homer High School Commons.

Lifelong Alaskan Mrs. Rebecca Irene Brown, 44, of Anchor Point died on Sunday, March 13, 2016, at her home.

Becky was born on Monday, Aug. 30, 1971, to Raymond and Grace (Pennington) Bellamy in Homer where she graduated from high school. She attended Kenai Peninsula College where she earned her Certified Nursing Assistant certificate. She received many awards at various rodeos with her horses.
