Sherrie Louise Abbott, 54, born Sept. 28, 1959, in Anchorage, died May 10, 2014, at Providence Hospital. “She walked across the celestial plain hand-in-hand with her spiritual guides,” her family said.

“So, here’s the deal. Our family and friends have never been enchanted with the whole obituary thing and writing all sorts of stuff about someone who isn’t with us anymore,” her family said. “Except that she is, growing from the seeds in our hearts and the memories in our minds.”

“How do you describe a lady like our Sherrie? How do you catch a feather and make it sing? We all seem to think that cancer is an ugly word. Well it damn sure is. Particularly when it comes in on little cat feet and goes out rather ungraciously and steals a 54-year-old kaleidoscopic human being.” her sister said.
“Sherrie now parties hardy with those we all have missed over the years,” her family said: brothers, Dale Abbott and Dudley Abbott; former husband, Paul Clifford Betz; father, Jack Abbott; cousins, Kathy Abbott and Karen Abbott; “father in heart” and family friend Lucky Kirk; father-in-law, Preston Betz; mother-in-law, Beatrice Betz; and her animals Punch, Dre, Bear, Herman and the family dog Jake.

She is survived by her mother, Mildred Lou Abbott; sister, Sheila Patterson; daughter, Ginger Slaughter; son, James Neilson; and cousins, Tyna Abbott, Marquella Grote, Michael Abbott and Lorena Stratton. 

“Everyone who knew Sherrie will always remember her love of music, compassion and caring for family, friends and animals, her somewhat twisted sense of humor, her determination to never give up, appreciation of nature and how she planted a seed in the hearts of all who knew her,” her family said.
