Ernest H. Wentworth

Ninilchik resident, Mr. Ernest H. Wentworth, 84, died Tuesday, May 19, 2013 at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer. 

No services will be held at Ernie’s request. 

Ernie was born Aug. 20, 1928. He entered into the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Tarawa. After serving in the Navy he returned to his home in Massachusetts for a brief time and then moved to Oregon. Ernie was a city police and deputy sheriff in Douglas County, Ore., and then an electrician for the General Telephone Co. Ernie married Lee Carstensen in 1964 in Drain, Ore. They spent 47 wonderful years together. In 1996 they moved to Ninilchik, where they lived ever since. Ernie was a member of the American Legion and the Ninilchik Senior Center. He attended the Ninilchik United Methodist Church. Hunting and fishing were his two favorite hobbies.

The family wrote, “We will miss his molasses cookies, his warm smile and big hugs. We will all miss him greatly; he was a great giver of himself and his heart.” 

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and three sisters. 

He is survived by his wife, Lee Wentworth of Ninilchik; son, Bruce A. Wentworth of Roseburg, Ore.; daughters, Molly C. Wentworth of Ninilchik, Carla Wentworth of South Dakota and Bonnie Kline of Palm Dale, Calif.; and nephew, Bruce R. Yeager of Seattle.
