Thelma M. “Teena” Schnepel
Jan. 13, 1926-March 11, 2013
Homer resident Thelma M. "Teena" Schnepel, 87, died Monday, March 11, 2013, at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2013, at Hickerson Memorial Cemetery on Diamond Ridge Road.
Thelma was born Jan. 13, 1926, in New York City and was a high school graduate. She moved to Homer in 2005 and was a housewife.
"Teena was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and loved to roller skate, bowl, boat, drive, and do crossword puzzles. In recent years, Teena enjoyed going on cruises, and trips to Las Vegas were always at the top of her 'favorites' list. A hopeless romantic, she loved settling in to watch at least one good love story a day, which always brought a tear to her eye, but game shows were also among her favorites.
"After losing her son to cancer, Teena moved from Florida to Alaska in 2005 to be close to her daughter. Together they enjoyed frequent outings for shopping, lunches and bird watching, as well as becoming travel buddies. Teena enjoyed bingo on Wednesday nights and dinner with family and friends on Sunday nights.
"We'll all miss you mom," her daughter said.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Schnepel, and son, William Schnepel.
Thelma is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Helene and Larry Herndon of Homer; granddaughter, Dawn Maurer of Kirkland, Wash.; grandson, Robert Greaves of Kent, Wash.; great-grandsons, Ty and Bode Maurer, both of Kirkland, Wash.; and a sister, Marion Roller of Bergen, N.J.
Arrangements were by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
