James “Jim” Louis Shaginoff

James “Jim” Louis Shaginoff, 70, passed away on Nov. 1, 2012, surrounded by family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer.
JIm was born Jan. 12, 1942, in Chickaloon, From 1948 until 1960, Jim lived and grew up at the Lazy Mountain Children’s Home. He graduated from Palmer High School in 1960, then attended RCA Institute in Los Angeles and New York from 1962-64, with a certificate in electronics. His work career started as an electronic tech on guidance systems for the military in California and the White Alice sites in the Anchorage area and later to Kenai. He began working on the platforms in Cook Inlet from 1970 to 1983. Jim worked for Arco, Brown & Root, Veco, and finally retired from Alyeska Service Company in 2002. Jim’s incredible work ethic and his commitment to education drove him, even in his retirement years, back to college. In 2010, Jim made the chancellor’s list and completed a Certificate in Renewable Energy. He served as the alternative energy project manager for Chickaloon Village until illness forced him into final retirement.
In his free time, Jim enjoyed playing basketball with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed spending time with and helping family and friends as well as working on many projects at his Sutton home.
Jim was a kind, loving and compassionate man who always helped people in their time of need. He was a respected elder of Chickaloon Village and served on the Chickaloon Village Traditional Council. Jim had a strong love for family, friends and community. Most importantly Jim was a wonderful husband and loved by his devoted wife, children and grandchildren.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, John Shaginoff and Mary Nickolai-Shaginoff, and brother, Paul Goodlataw. Jim is survived by his wife Ingrid Shaginoff; his brothers, Burt, Don and Lloyd; his children, Timothy Shaginoff, wife Debbie with their children Melissa, Alysha, Havan and Maria; Sondra Shaginoff-Stuart, husband Lee with their children Dillon, Kyle and Cory; Kari Shaginoff with her children Mary and Jarrett; Cindy and Jason Skow with children Megan, Colton, Morgan and Jaxsen; John Corey and wife Ronda with their children Rabekka and Timothy and great-grandson Oliver; Chelina and Dave Ahrens with children Jacob, StaVanna, Autumn, Genevieve, Madison and Alaina; Ingrid and Shane Ling with their children Philip, Dylan, Emily and Logan; and Wayne and Natalie Hickel with their children Kendra, James and McKinlee.
Jim’s memorial service will be held Nov. 8, 2012, at the Palmer Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 2238 South Inner Springer Loop, Palmer. Viewing is at noon with services to follow at 1 p.m. A potlatch and wake will be held following the service at Wasilla Senior Center, 1301 S. Century Circle, Wasilla, beginning at 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Jim’s baby cousin, Renvek, to help in his battle against cancer at MVFCU Account No. 140467.
