April 3

Alaska State Troopers at 8:25 p.m. made a traffic stop on a 42-year-old Homer man on Jenny Way in Homer. Troopers arrested the man for driving under the influence.

April 5

Troopers at 10:12 p.m. made a traffic stop on a 40-year-old Homer man near Mile 16 East End Road. They arrested him for driving while license revoked.

April 5

Police at 2:01 a.m. contacted a 48-year-old man driving on the Sterling Highway and arrested him for driving while license suspended.

A caller at 10:39 a.m. reported possible gunfire in the Sterling Highway and Soundview Avenue area. Police responded.

Firefighters and emergency medical technicians went to eight medical calls and one fire call.

Homer pioneer Robert J. “Bob” Walli, 91, died April 13, 2016, at South Peninsula Hospital. Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 17, 2016, at the Homer Elks Lodge, with a reception to follow. 

He was born July 31, 1924, to Ero and Lillian Walli at the Walli homestead at Stariski. A full obituary will follow in next week’s Homer News.

Former Homer and Fairbanks resident Russel E. Wooden, 87, of Green Valley, Ariz., died at La Hacienda nursing home at La Posada in the wee hours of Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016, of heart failure.

Jan. 28, 1967-April 2, 2016

Garry Phipps, 49, of Homer, Alaska, died Saturday, April 2, 2016, at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer after a 10-month battle with cancer.

A gathering of friends and family was held on Sunday, April 10, 2016, at the family’s home.

March 26

Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited a 60-year-old Kansas man for applying for and receiving a resident 2015 commercial crew fishing license as well as a 2015 resident sport fish license. Troopers said the man did not meet the residency requirements to receive the licenses.  

April 2

Troopers at midnight made a traffic stop on a 50-year-old Anchor Point woman driving on the Sterling Highway near the North Fork Road. Troopers arrested her for driving while license revoked.

March 26

A caller at 9:07 a.m. reported a robbery attempt at a Pioneer Avenue address. Police responded.

A caller at 1:18 p.m. reported a shoplifter running from a Sterling Highway store. Police responded.

A caller at 1:46 p.m. reported checking on property at a Mountain Park Street home and finding damage and possible forced entry. Police responded.

Firefighters and emergency medical technicians went to 13 medical calls and one fire call.

Trooper Report

March 19

Alaska State Troopers at 10 a.m. went to a crash near Anchor Point. Troopers said a 59-year-old Kasilof man suffered minor injuries but totaled his 2000 Subaru.

Troopers at 3:40 p.m. contacted a 28-year-old Homer man in Homer and found he had an outstanding warrant. Troopers arrested the man.

A caller at 11:11 a.m. made a “report every dangerous driver immediately” complaint of a driver who appeared unsteady when walking at a Lake Street address. Police responded and determined the driver had a knee injury and had left a cane in the car.

Two men at 11:30 a.m. went to the police station to turn themselves in. Police arrested a 39-year-old man on an arrest warrant and a 34-year-old man on a petition to revoke probation.

A man at 12:45 p.m. reported a theft from a car.
