Oct. 12

Alaska State Bureau of Highway Patrol Troopers at 3:14 p.m., were patrolling near mile 142 Sterling Highway in Ninilchik and stopped a 41-year-old Kenai man. The driver’s license had been revoked for refusal to submit to a chemical test. Troopers issued the man a summons for driving while license revoked.

At 7:08 p.m., troopers were patrolling near mile 168 Sterling Highway. They observed a blue vehicle with no expiration tags on the license plate. Troopers stopped the driver, a 25-year-old Arkansas man. A check revealed he was driving while license suspended for unsatisfied judgment in Arkansas. The vehicle identification number also was different from the actual license plate. Troopers issued the man a summons for driving while license suspended and misuse of plates.

Oct. 19

Alaska Wildlife Troopers contacted a 23-year-old man from Homer, after receiving a Wildlife Safeguard report of a potential illegal moose harvest. Investigation revealed 

that on the morning of Oct. 14, the man shot a 40-inch bull moose with 2×2 brow tines during a closed season outside the Homer area. He unlawfully transported the moose and antlers to his residence and failed to salvage all edible meat as required by regulation. The man’s rifle was seized during the investigation and the moose meat was donated to charity. He was issued citations on charges of taking a moose during a closed season, unlawful possession/transportation of game, failure to salvage all edible meat and unlawful transport of antlers prior to the salvage of all edible meat. Another man, age 54 from Homer, was also cited for unlawful possession/transportation of game for his involvement with the illegal transportation of the bull.  Arraignment for both men is scheduled for 9 a.m. Nov. 14 in the Homer District Court. 

Alaska Wildlife Troopers along with a U.S. Fish and Wildlife officer contacted a 51-year-old Ninilchik man, after observing him shoot at a lynx decoy from the roadway with a .22LR rifle. There is no hunting or trapping season open in 2014-2015 for lynx in Unit 15C where the incident occurred. The man was also in possession of less than an ounce of marijuana. The rifle was seized and the man was issued citations to appear in Homer court on charges of taking a lynx during the closed season, shooting game from the roadway and sixth degree misconduct involving a controlled substance. Arraignment is scheduled for 9 a.m. Nov. 4.
