Kenai Peninsula College seeks interested community members to apply to serve on its College Council as the southern Kenai Peninsula at-large representative. The borough-wide council serves as an advisory board to the college director and advocates for the interests of the college to the community and legislature; members serve 3-year terms. The Kachemak Bay Campus is closed for the holiday break from Dec. 24 - Jan. 1.
Registration for winter-spring semester is now going on for all upcoming classes. Many classes begin the week of Jan. 14.
Many art and writing classes are offered next semester, including ceramics with Paul Dungan; beginning; intermediate and advanced painting with Asia Freeman; film with Michael Walsh; digital camera photography with Taz Tally; printmaking and book arts by Jimmy Riordan; creative nonfiction with Nancy Lord; introduction to creative writing with Erin Hollowell and food writing with chef Kristen Dixon.

Registration has started for the 2013 Kachemak Bay Writers' Conference, to be held June 14-18 at Land's End Resort. Poet Naomi Shihab Nye is the keynote presenter. The early registration fee is $375, space available, with a special student rate.
The conference features 17 other award-winning, nationally recognized authors, editors and agents who will conduct creative writing workshops, readings, craft talks and panel presentations.
