Anchor Point Senior Center is having a chicken dinner at 5:30 p.m. today in honor of Veterans Day. All veterans will eat free tonight. 

The Homer Foundation hosts its annual meeting, “A Story of Connection,” today at the Pratt Museum. There will be a meet and greet at 5:30 p.m. The board meeting starts at 6 p.m. For more information, call 235-0541.

The Kachemak Bay Water Trail Steering Committeeholds open house meetings today. The purpose of the meetings is to provide an opportunity for organizations, agencies and the general public to look at maps and suggest locations around Kachemak Bay suitable as “Water Trail Sites.” Participants will also be asked to identify sensitive areas that should not be considered for a water trail site such as for wildlife, bird, plant, or cultural concerns. Recommendations for seasonal closures especially related to wildlife are being sought. The meetings are 9-11 a.m. at the Homer Public Library Conference Room, 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Homer City Council Chambers and 5-7 p.m. in the Research Reserve Building, State Park Office on Kachemak Drive. 

The Mindfulness Meeting is a group for cultivating wisdom, gratitude and serenity through skills and practice that takes place weekly on Fridays at the Kachemak Bay Campus, Bayview Building, Room 104 from noon to 1:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome; there is no charge. For more information, call Rachel or Sharon at 235-7712. This group is sponsored by South Peninsula Haven House.

Community Christmas Bazaar is 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church, corner of Soundview and Sterling Highway. Many booths of crafts and baked goods. Call 235-7600 for information. 

Join the Kachemak Emergency Services Membership Association for a night of chili and auctions to raise money for volunteer firefighter, John Cox, from 3-8 p.m. Sunday at the American Legion on East End Road.

The Christian Science Society, located at 3774 Bartlett Street, will hold a Thanksgiving Day service, Thursday, Nov. 22, 10 a.m. Hymns, prayer and readings from the King James Bible and correlative passages from Science and Health with key to the Scriptures, written by Mary Baker Eddy, comprise the service. The Golden Text for this service is from Malachi 3:10 “… and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing.” There will be time for sharing testimonies, and expressions of gratitude. All are welcome to this hour-long service. 

Santa has booked his flight. He will arrive in Homer on Nov. 25 to help NOMAR kick off the Christmas season with a open house from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Santa has promised to arrive by noon and spend a couple of hours visiting with Homer’s young ones, and the young-at-heart too. Bring your cameras to catch those special moments to share with your friends and family. Stop by NOMAR for the Sunday fun. There will be free gift-wrapping, prize drawings every hour, and treats for the kids.

Researchers and Kenai Peninsula College anthropology professors Dr. Alan Boraas and Dr. Catherine Knott present Fish Family Freedom and Sacred Water, a talk on the cultural importance of salmon to the people of Bristol Bay, at 6:30 p.m. Friday, at Pioneer Hall at the Kachemak Bay Campus. This event is free and open to the public.

There will be a spaghetti feed and auction and medical benefit from 1-4 p.m. Dec. 1 at the Ninilchik Fairgrounds Carol Bock Hall for 16-month-old Ethan Wheeler, who was recently diagnosed with a rare muscular cancer.
