Kachemak Emergency Services Area Board holds its regular board meeting today at 7 p.m. at the McNeil Canyon Fire Station 53048 Ashwood Ave., Mile 12 East End Road. The agenda will be posted at the station and the Borough Building, 206 E. Pioneer Ave.

The Mindfulness Meeting is a group for cultivating wisdom, gratitude and serenity through skills and practice that takes place weekly on Fridays at the Kachemak Bay Campus, Bayview Building, Room 104 from noon to 1:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome; there is no charge. For more information, call Rachel or Sharon at 235-7712. This group is sponsored by South Peninsula Haven House.

Midtown Cafe has moved. The new location is below Kachemak Wholesale on Heath Street. Friday there will be a grand opening celebration at 6 p.m. Midtown Cafe is a nonprofit organization to provide a place where youth can feel welcome, accepted and loved, and create an
environment for them where they feel safe. 

Kachemak Bay Equestrian Association holds its annual meeting Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the West Homer Elementary School Library. Presentations will be given by the Pony Club and the Phantom Riders 4-H Club. There will be a slideshow by Sue Robinson.

District 30 Democrats meet Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Kachemak Community Center. For more information, call Kate Finn, 235-5329.

The Homer Foundation hosts its annual meeting, “A Story of Connection,” on Thursday, Nov. 15, at the Pratt Museum. There will be a meet and greet at 5:30 p.m. The board meeting starts at 6 p.m. For more information, call 235-0541.

Homer Senior Citizens

Homer Senior Citizens lunch is open to seniors and their guests and is served 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday through Friday. The lunch menu for this week is: today, roast pork tenderloin; Friday, baked sockeye; Monday, closed for Veterans Day; Tuesday, chicken pot pie; Wednesday, pulled barbecue pork sandwich. 

Strong Women classes at Homer Senior Citizens Recreation Room are 2-3 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Cost is $3 for members and $6 for nonmembers per class.

Tai Chi classes are Thursday at 3 p.m. Cost is $3 for members and $6 for nonmembers per class. For more information, call Daniel at 235-7655.

Kachemak Bay Campus

Registration for winter/spring semester begins Nov. 12 for degree-seeking students. Advising appointments are now open. See schedule for upcoming winter/spring

General public registration begins for winter classes and workshops on Nov. 26.

Pratt Museum

New winter hours are noon-5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

Pratt Playdate is Friday, 10-11 a.m. at the Marine Gallery. This free family event features hands-on activities designed for babies and toddlers. 

“History in the Making: Quilts, Quilters and Their Stories” is an exhibition of quilts by individual quilters that reflect our rich history and personal connection to the Kachemak Bay region. The exhibit opens with a reception on Friday from 5-7 p.m. and remains on display through Dec. 30.

In conjunction with the special quilt exhibit, the museum will present a special, two-fold event Nov.  30. Beginning at 5 p.m., the museum will host a special showing of quilts from the Pratt Museum’s collections. Visitors will have a chance to see several quilts not normally on exhibit. Following the collections showing, the museum will host a screening of “The Great American Quilt Revival,” narrated by Georgia Bonesteel. This film is the story of how quilts came to be recognized as works of art and how the craft of quilting has exploded into popular culture. This is a free event.

R.E.C. Room

The R.E.C. Room (Resource and Enrichment Co-op) is a multipurpose space for youth ages 12-18 as a safe environment to hang out with friends. Hours are 3-6 p.m. Monday-Friday in the lower level of the Kachemak Bay Family Planning Clinic outreach building on Nielsen Circle. Visit www.recroom.kbfpc.org or call Anna at 235-OPEN (6736).
