Samantha Draves, a graduate of Homer High School, has been named to the Dean’s List for the fall semester at The College of Wooster, Wooster, Ohio. Draves, a first-year student from Homer, achieved a grade-point average of 3.65 or above.

The South Peninsula Amateur Radio Club (SPARC) holds ham radio training classes from 5 p.m.-6:30 p.m. the first Tuesday of every month and from noon-3 p.m. the second Saturday of every month in the Homer Public Library Conference Room. Classes started Jan. 14. The classes are a self-study program guided by Extra Class Operators and Instructors Shanley KL5AJK and Pat KL3DB. The testing session will be noon-3 p.m. Saturday, May 13, at the Homer Public Library. There is no charge to take the tests. Door prizes will be given away along with a chance to win a new ham radio at the end of the Spring Class Session.

The Kachemak Bay Birders’ next birding trip is Saturday. Meet at 1:30 p.m. in the parking lot at the base of the Homer Spit on Kachemak Drive. Birders will search for wintering shorebirds, waterfowl and the other birds out there that make the Spit such a special place for birding all year round. The very high tide coming in will mean the sea birds will come closer and in range of scopes. Bring binoculars, field guides and scopes if you have one. Dress warmly and be prepared for icy conditions. There is no charge and everyone is welcome.

Parkinson’s Connection meets at 1 p.m. the first Friday of every month at the Homer Senior Center Conference Room. January’s meeting includes food, music and resources. For more information, contact Jolee Ellis at 235-6349.

Kachemak Emergency Service Area Board holds it regular monthly board meeting at 7 p.m. today at the McNeil Canyon Fire Station, 53048 Ashwood Ave. (Mile 12 East End Road).
