Roedl brothers go 1-2 in Masters Meet

Sixteen masters swimmers competed in the first annual Kachemak Swim Club Masters Sextathlon at Kate Kuhns Aquatic Center, Dec. 20. Events contested were the 100 free, 50 fly, 50 back, 50 breast, 50 free and 100 IM.

Overall winners were determined by the lowest cumulative time for all six events. 

John Roedl won the overall title with a 3:56.50, including individual event wins in the 100 free (54.60), 50 fly (27.38), 50 back (28.97), 50 free (24.82), and 100 IM (1:05.52). Second overall was captured by Wil Roedl with a 4:07.41 including a win in the 50 breast (34.47). 

Brian Ritchie took third with a 4:09.82.

On the women’s side, Marie Schmidt took the overall in 4:35.77, winning all six individual events: 100 free (1:03.40), 50 fly (33.77), 50 back (34.64), 50 breast (40.20), 50 free (29.82), and 100 IM (1:13.94). Runner-up in the women’s division was secured by Eileen McNulty (4:47.79) and third by Emily Schmidt (5:09.78). 

Other swimmers participating included Annie Ridgely, Jasmine Maurer, Hillary Daily, Devry Downey, Ben Tillotson, Hal Shepherd, Catie Bursch, Jaime Roth, Katie Schmidt and Louis Maurer.

The Kachemak Swim Club Masters is a group of adult swimmers ages 18-88 interested in improving their fitness and swimming skills. There is no requirement for entry other than the ability to swim one length of the pool and a desire to improve. 

Practice times are Monday, Wednesday and Friday,  7-8 a.m. and Tuesday and Thursday, 6-7 p.m. The cost is $30 per month.
