Community invited to homecoming celebration

Homer High School kicks off its homecoming celebration with a parade at 6:30 p.m. Friday. The community is invited to participate. The parade route leaves the HHS east entrance, turns right on Pioneer Avenue and returns to the school at the west entrance. Floats are meant to inspire spirit before Saturday’s homecoming football game against Houston High School. The theme is Rio-Carnival.
There will be awards for most enthusiastic, i.e. loudest; most colorful; most thematic; best pride and pep; and a blue-gold award for best display of Mariner spirit. Each float or marching group will have candy.
After the parade, the community is invited to a bonfire in the lower HHS parking lot sponsored by the Homer High School Student Council. Feel free to bring your own chairs. There will be food, games and fun. The bonfire ends at 8 p.m.
The public also is invited to HHS gym on Friday to watch volleyball versus Cordova. Games begin at 7:30 p.m. and continue Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m.
The football games on Saturday are junior varsity at noon, varsity at 3 p.m.
