There’s Mixed 6 volleyball action at Nikolaevsk this weekend with the Southwest Conference Tournament. Six-member co-ed teams — each team may include no more than three boys, but may include more than three girls — playing in the tournament include teams from Arctic Village; Anderson; defending champions Glacierview; Kodiak Ess (a combination of players from Larsen Bay, Karluk, Akiak and Ouzinkie); Chignik Lake and Nikolaevsk. Games on Friday are at 3 p.m., 4:30 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Two consolation games will be played Saturday morning at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. The afternoon games will determine which team goes to state. They will be played at noon and 1:30 p.m., with the championship game at 3 p.m.
“What’s really cool is that these teams from all over are excited about getting their kids out, seeing other cultures and meeting other kids,” said Coach Bea Klaich. “And it’s a fun sport.”
Mixed 6 volleyball state championships will be Dimond High School in Anchorage the weekend of Dec. 6-8.
