Alice's wins, ties in Broomball

This week in Broomball, Alice's Scoundrels scored four goals against the Beluga Lake Bombers and one against the Down East Grayskulls. Grayskulls scored one each against the Bombers and the Scoundrels. The Bombers scored three against the Grayskulls and one against Alice's.

This week's most valuable players are Jason Herreman of the Scoundrels, Chris Gordon of the Bombers and Jesse Classen of the Grayskulls.

Ice Rink holds fundraiser

The Kevin Bell Ice Rink and the Divas present "A Shamrock Shin-Dig and Shenanigans" fundraiser starting at 7 p.m. March 16 at Alice's Champagne Palace. An Irish dinner with green beer buffet is $20. Music and beer is $10.

There will be Split-the-Pot-o-Gold and Luck of the Irish: Magical Mystery Envelope prizes and a door prize as well as games and a costume contest.

Ski marathon is Saturday

The Kachemak Nordic Ski Club Marathon is Saturday starting at the Lookout Mountain ski trails. It ends at the Baycrest Sterling Highway trailhead, with a shuttle bus for race skiers leaving at 9 a.m. from the Baycrest trailhead to take them to the start. Tour skiers won't make it by shuttle bus to the start on team and have to find their own way.

The 25 km tour begins at 9:30 a.m. followed by the 25 km and 42 km races at 10:30 a.m. in a mass start. Bib pickup begins at 9 a.m.

The post-race awards party is 5 p.m. at Alice's Champagne Palace with soup, salad, bread, a cash bar and door prizes. Adults and young adults (high school and older) are $10; big kids ages 6 to 12 are $5, and little kids are free. To register online or for more more information, visit kachemaknordicskiclub.org.

Registration opens for Winter King Salmon Tournament

Registration has started for the 20th annual Winter King Salmon Tournament, held 9 a.m.-4 p.m. March 23. Alaska anglers from around the state compete in the one-day spring tournament. Last year, more than 900 fishermen on 132 boats competed, with as many as 1,072 in other years.

In addition to cash prizes for the top king salmon, there also are random drawings for merchandise prizes announced over VHF radio every five minutes.

The entry fee is $100 per angler. Lines go in at 9 a.m. and out at 4 p.m., with weigh-in at 6 p.m. For more information and to register, visit www.homeralaska.org.

In case of bad weather on March 23, the tournament will be held on March 24. If weather is bad that weekend, the alternate date is March 30.

Homer residents take part in Tour of Anchorage

Several Homer residents participated in last weekend's Tour of Anchorage. Results included:
