High school pool reopens
After managers discovered a "fecal incident" at the Kate Kuhns Aquatic Center at Homer High School, the swimming pool was closed on Feb. 5. It reopened Monday night after the pool was cleaned and sanitized. The incident highlights the need for swimmers to not use the pool if sick with stomach flu, diarrhea, respiratory flu and other illnesses.
"Clean bodies equal clean water," said pool manager Bridget Kuhns.
Swimmers should take these precautions to help keep the pool clean:
* Wear clean bathing suits;
* Shower with soap and water before entering the pool;
* Wear bathing caps, even for people with short hair;
* Avoid using the pool if you have open sores and runny noses; and
* Shower again after using the bathroom and before re-entering the pool.
Pool hours for open swims are 6:30-7:30 p.m. Monday-Friday and 1-3 p.m. Saturday. Lap swimming is 6:30-8 a.m. Monday-Friday, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday-Friday and noon-1 p.m. Saturday. Lap and leisure swimming is 7:30-8:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Fees are $5 adults, $4 seniors, and $2.50 youth. For more information, call 235-7416.
