Co-ed hockey season begins

The co-ed hockey league started its season off last Saturday night.  Forty-one players comprising four teams began the battle for the fall season’s coveted award  — the “golden puck bucket.”

In the season opener, team “Orange Crush-em” battled neck and neck with team “Green Goons.” Goalie Lydia Brown made a record number of saves, and managed to keep the score tied up the entire game.

Goals for Orange Crush-em were made by Russ Walker, Steve Rich, Chris Russ and the game tying goal was made by Karen Weston.

The Green Goons were down a few players, but held their own thanks to newcomer Andrew  Snella who scored one goal and assisted two others. The Green Goons kept the game tied with additional goals by Chris Brown, Chip Duggan, and top shelf goal by Leslie Mastick.

The final score was 4-4 with no shootout held due to game time limits.

The second match-up was the “Tighty Whities” vs.  the “Dark Defensemen.” The teams played a very even game, but the Tighty Whities just couldn’t connect with the net. Every shot by the TW team seemed to get blocked by goalie Lydia Brown, and eventually  the DD turned it up and scored a hearty 5 points by the end of the game.

The final score was 5-0, DD. This was an all female victory, thanks to goals by Deb Mosely Andrea Stineff, Sue Rennolds, Jen Nevak and Karyn Noyes. They hope the men will step up during the game next week.

The season is just getting started for anyone interested in playing, contact Ingrid Harrald at iharrald@hotmail.com. There is always room for more, and it’s a great opportunity for skaters of all levels, she said.

Also, stay tuned for pond hockey and 3 on 3 tournaments coming up in December.
