Four teams participating in the Homer Coed Adult Hockey Jamboree take a time-out for a group photo.

The Homer Coed Adult Hockey Jamboree was held Oct. 25-27, at the Kevin Bell Arena on the Spit. Forty-eight players from Juneau, Anchorage, Kenai, Soldotna and Homer participated in the tournament.

Not about to be left out of the fun, Sen. Peter Micciche, R-Soldotna, strapped on his gear and played in goal for two of the games.

This was the first adult coed hockey jamboree in Homer. Players registered separately and tournament organizers attempted to make teams that would be competitive. Players could request one person to play with, so there were many couples playing on the same team. Players’ skill levels ranged from beginners to a previous junior “A” player (high level). Goalies rotated through the teams. Games started at 6:45 p.m. Friday and continued through the weekend, ending with the championship game at 10:15 a.m. Sunday. All but one game had scores that were within one goal of each other.

Team 4, which included three players from Anchorage, won the championship game 3-2 against Team 2. Team 1 and Team 3 tied in the previous game, which confirmed Team 3 in third and Team 1 in fourth place. Organizers want to expand the tournament next year to include more out-of-town players and better team names.

Thanks to all of the volunteers, score-time keepers and hospitality, and the great job done by our Homer referees. Also, organizers want to thank the out-of-town players who traveled far and wide to make this event possible.
