Energy fair great success

Homer Electric would like to thank everyone who helped make our seventh annual Energy and Conservation Fair a great success. The fair at Soldotna High School attracted approximately 400 participants who received information about energy efficiency, renewable energy, recycling, home energy programs and other topics relating to conservation. The feedback each year has been very positive and we are pleased that we can offer valuable information under one roof.

Thank you to all our 2015 sponsors. Special thanks to our platinum sponsor, Kachemak Electric, as well as to our gold sponsors including ConocoPhillips, Hilcorp Alaska, Ohlson Mountain Mineral Springs H2O, and Spenard Builders Supply. And many thanks to our silver sponsors including Alaska Community Development Corp., Alaska Housing Finance Corporation, Alaska Small Business Development Center, Brown’s Electrical Supply Co., Home Depot, Kenai Peninsula Builders Association, Stanley Ford and Tesoro.

The fair is made possible through the generous participation of the vendors who are willing to share their expertise with HEA members. Thank you to Alaska Community Development Corp., Alaska Housing Finance Corp., Alaska Infrared, Alaska Small Business Development, AVTEC, Brown’s Electrical Supply, Central Peninsula Garden Club, Cook Inletkeeper, Cooperative Extension Services, Gary’s Renewable Energy, Healthy Homes Alaska, Home Depot, Kachemak Electric, North Star Metals, Ohlson Mountain Mineral Springs H2O, Peninsula Overhead Doors, Quality Enterprises, REAP, ReGroup, Regulatory Commission of Alaska, Spenard Builders Supply, Stanley Ford, State of Alaska Heating Assistance, Urban Green Technology and Wisdom & Associates.

HEA also extends a huge thank you to Shred Alaska for their free shred event for all participants. There was a great turn out with 62 car loads participating in the shred event. As a result, 3,264 pounds of documents were shredded and recycled. We look forward to partnering with you again.

Thank you to Soldotna High School administration and staff for providing a great venue for the event and assisting in the set up. In addition, we thank the Soldotna High School girls’ basketball booster club for providing the hot dogs and refreshments and to Ohlson Mountain Mineral Springs H2O for providing the bottled water. HEA appreciated another year of ReGroup’s cooperation in providing the recycle bins for the plastic water bottles.

Homer Electric is committed to providing our members with as much information as possible to manage their energy use. We are already looking forward to our 2016 Energy and Conservation Fair and if you have any suggestions on how to improve our fair, we would love to hear from you.
