Softball teams help in cancer fight

The Homer Mariners Softball Team and the Kodiak Bears Softball team would like to thank the community for supporting us in our “StrikeOut Cancer” games held at Jack Gist Park on May 15. Through the auspices of the National FastPitch Coach’s Association we were able to participate in a nationwide program of raising money for cancer awareness, education and research.

Locally, we raised more than $800 to donate to the Anchorage Affiliate of the American Cancer Society, part of the national total of almost $300,000. Thank you, especially to Kelly Cooper for sharing  her personal experiences with the players, to the softball parents that donated time and  food preparation  and to both South Peninsula Hospital and Homer Medical Center for financial support.
