Grant will help trail maintenance

The Kachemak Nordic Ski Club would like to thank the Homer Foundation for funding the purchase of a new trail mower for our club.  The mission of KNSC is to promote and encourage Nordic skiing in the Kachemak Bay area.

One of our core responsibilities is to groom and maintain a large network of trails here on the Lower Peninsula.   Trail maintenance just doesn’t happen in the snow months.   Trail mowing is important in preparing trails for the winter ski season. It is important to have the grass and brush mowed prior to the first snowfall so groomers can “get a jump on” ski trail preparation. By conducting regular mowing up to the first snow groomers are able to have trails skiable for the community with minimal snowfall.

Though the KNSC trail systems are primarily for Nordic skiing, many hikers, runners, birders and wildflower enthusiasts enjoy the trails throughout the summer.  Through the generosity of the Homer Foundation, KNSC will be better equipped to perform summertime trail mowing for skiers and non-skiers alike.
