Time to save kings is now

Posted: January 29, 2014 - 5:28pm

I have been fishing the Kenai River for 20 years and over the past years I have noticed a drop in size of the fish caught. This last year I arrived and found that the Alaska Department of Fish and Game had closed the river the night before I arrived to fish for kings. I was out airfare, accommodations and the thrill of catching a king. I cannot afford to keep this up, as I am retired.

The time to act is now and hold off all fishing for at least five years and hope that the fish will recover. I feel that as time goes on, the commercial fleet will strip this river of a great experience that future generations will never experience the thrill of catching a king.
