Teens get to learn from a chef
Young people ages 12-18 years are encouraged to join R.E.C. Room staff and chef, Megan Palma, owner of the Alibi A’ la Carte, for a hands on lesson in preparing healthy and tasty dishes with local ingredients.
This class will be held at the Alibi A’ la Carte’s kitchen from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14. Teens will have a chance to learn to make multiple dishes including the best fish taco in town from Megan in her commercial kitchen. The selected dishes are simple; they taste good and are good for you.
This unique FORK Club opportunity will allow youth to explore the career field of culinary arts. Learning from a chef how to maneuver around a busy commercial kitchen is a hands-on skill which is very hirable in our community where tourism brings in business. Local restaurants are supportive of hiring young people to their crews and any hands-on experience in a commercial setting is helpful.
All teens/guardians have to do is sign up this week at the R.E.C. Room by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org, calling 235-6736, or by stopping in Monday through Friday from 3-6 p.m. This class is free.
Since Megan is hosting FORK at her restaurant to give youth the experience of working in a true culinary setting, we are asking youth and families to set up rides for drop off at the Alibi at 3:30 p.m. and be picked up there at 6:30 p.m. The class is limited to the first 13 teenagers to sign up.
